On behalf of Asian Association on Remote Sensing (AARS), I would like to welcome you all to the 36th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS) to be organized from 19 to 23 October, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The main theme of the 36th ACRS is “Fostering Resilient Growth in Asia”. As we all know that Asia is one of the most growing regions in the world. But, at the same time, Asia is suffered by various environmental problems and disasters. Remote sensing is necessary technology in Asia. This is our second time to organize ACRS in Manila. Last time was back to 1998. I have been discussing with my friends Mr. Virgilio Santos, Dr. Enrico Paringit, Dr. Gay Perez and Dr. Josefino Comiso for years on organizing ACRS in the Philippines. In May 2013, I was invited to the 3rd National Remote Sensing Conference organized by the Philippine Geosciences and Remote Sensing Society (PhilGRSS). At that time, I was quite impressed to see the younger generation of PhilGRSS activating the conference. So, when PhilGRSS proposed to organize ACRS 2015 in the Philippines at the General Conference organized at ACRS 2013, I fully supported them. The Conference is jointly organized by PhilGRSS and AARS. I would like to thank PhilGRSS and related organizations of the Philippines for their great contribution to realize ACRS2015 in Manila. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) members are working so hard every day. So far, we have received over 600 papers from 32 countries and regions. I have no doubt on the success of the conference.
Finally I would like to ask all of you to attend this exciting conference by presenting papers, discussing technical issues, exchanging ideas with Asian friends, and sing & dance together at the welcome party. Looking forward to seeing you all at ACRS2015 to be organized in Manila.
Thank you.
Mabuhay!
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), I am delighted to welcome everyone to Quezon City for the 36th edition of the Asian Conference on Remote Sensing. The Philippines is honored to host the ACRS for the 2nd time in over a decade. Since then, much has changed in this part of the Asian region – and so has its challenges. The Conference hopes to address these and offer more in its Plenary and Technical Sessions. Over 600 paper presentations and a thousand participants are expected in this Conference.
ACRS 2015 would not have been possible without the many people who have worked with us in planning and organizing the Technical Program, the Exhibit and supporting social events. We thank the AARS for its unrelenting guidance and brilliant suggestions on organizing the event; the Technical Program Committee for their thorough and timely review of the papers, and our Sponsors who have helped keep the participation affordable. Special recognition is due to LOC members who have all worked extremely hard for ironing important details of the Conference programs and social activities.
Quezon City is not only appealing historically but also among the busiest in the country – making it the right place for exchanging ideas, engaging discussions and enriching knowledge. While you’re here, take time to have fun and find memories with the various attractions that the Philippines has to offer.
We do hope that you will enjoy what promises to be a productive and stimulating ACRS!
With great pleasure, I would like to welcome the participants of the 36th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing.
It is truly an honor for the Philippines to be hosting, for the second time, this prestigious gathering of remote sensing and GIS experts, students, policy-makers and industry leaders in the region. When the Philippine Geosciences and Remote Sensing Society (PhilGRSS) was given the opportunity to host ACRS 2015, I was overwhelmed with the daunting task that lies ahead. But with the strong encouragements of Prof. Kohei Cho and Dr. Josefino Comiso, and with the unwavering support of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), our society gladly took the challenge of organizing this year’s conference. Led by our chair, Dr. Enrico Paringit, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) is very grateful to your warm reception of our invitation to participate in ACRS 2015. We received 635 full paper submissions from 38 countries and regions. With this, we have scheduled 3 plenary, 6 sub-plenary, 75 technical parallel and 16 special sessions, together with three days of poster presentations. The conference is spiced up by several social events; including the much anticipated cultural night, student night and the exhibitor’s night. PhilGRSS is extremely thankful to our sponsors and exhibitors, conference coordinators and volunteers for helping make this conference a success.
I hope you will have a productive time in ACRS 2015. Welcome to Manila and Enjoy!

This year, WEBCON5 is planned to be organized at ACRS 2015. The main objective of the contest is to promote the development of web materials which may give us a future vision of the web related to geo-information sciences. Any students and young scientists who are younger than 35 and have registered to the ACRS 2015 can nominate their web materials to WEBCON5. For more details, please go to /webcon/.
We are inviting students from different universities for a 10-minute presentation about their universities. The organizers have allocated one and half hours for the Student Session during ACRS 2015. Please refer to the conference program for the schedule.
Continuing the very successful tradition of the previous summer school started by the ISPRS Student Consortium in 2005, ACRS 2015 will also host the “ISPRS Student Consortium and WG VI/5 Summer School”. The Summer School will take place from 24 to 28 October 2015. It will include lectures, practical laboratory exercises, social events, and field trips.
